HUD - NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORKING FOR SENIORS IN MEMPHIS TENNESSEE
STAFFING AND SCHEDULE
Online Service Coordinator
This plan is designed to function with one Online Service Coordinator to be shared between
St. Peter Manor and Plough Towers. For the first year of this program this individual will be
working eight hours/day five days/week.
Basic to the success of the program will be the residents' ability to learn to use the computer.
The instructor, therefore, is a critical player in this program. We feel that the following are vital
skills and abilities of any instructor:
1. Ability to interact with the elderly and to communicate in "lay" terms how
to use the computer,
2. Patience,
3. Flexibility,
4. Ability to form relationships,
5. Knowledge of community resources and how to use them in terms of bringing
specific individuals to talk about special programs.
This position is being requested for the full two year startup period to facilitate a smoother
transition to total volunteer training. After the first two years, seniors will take over as the
primary educators for other seniors except for special workshops.
Volunteer Efforts
Critical to the success of this program will a steady supply of volunteers. The volunteers that we are
soliciting have the same qualitites as the On Line Service Coordinator. Seniors at each of these
locations are also being trained as volunteer trainers. In addition to senior volunteers, non-seniors
have asked to participate as volunteer instructors. In addition, High School students who already
function as volunteers at Plough Towers will be asked to help out with some of the instructional needs
of seniors relative to using the computers in the CLC.
